About Luzerne County

We welcome patients from across Luzerne County and the Wyoming Valley.

Luzerne County had 327,675 residents at the most recent census count, making it the largest county in the region.

The Wyoming Valley recorded a population of 567,559 at the 2020 census, making it the fifth-largest metropolitan area in Pennsylvania.

Wilkes-Barre, the county seat, had 44,328 residents in 2020. The city is along the Susquehanna River in the Wyoming Valley.

Wilkes University and King's College are both in downtown Wilkes-Barre, together enrolling several thousand undergraduate and graduate students.

The Back Mountain climbs several hundred feet above the valley floor to the west, while Mountain Top sits on the high ground to the south.

How the Luzerne County Climate Affects Your Skin

Luzerne County covers a lot of different terrain. Wilkes-Barre and Kingston are on the floor of the Wyoming Valley on either side of the Susquehanna River, while the Back Mountain rises several hundred feet above the valley and Mountain Top is at an even higher elevation. Winters are noticeably longer and colder in the higher elevations, and summers on Harveys Lake bring strong sun and bright reflected light off the water.

Both the higher mountains and the lower valley are good reasons why daily sun protection and medical-grade skin care come up in so many of our consultations with patients from Luzerne County. Your provider will talk through what suits you, and when, and build a plan around your own goals.
